Once upon a time you could put “#1 Agent in El Paso, Tx” or “Multi-Million $ Producer” on your business card and ads and people would take it at face value. Now, however, home buyers have become much more discriminating and intentional in the way they choose their agent.
Much like how TV used to be 3 channels, then 10 channels, then 200 channels, and now people stream exactly what they want, when they want it. With so much news, social media, and a ton of Realtors to pick from, you have to change your marketing to appeal to a specific audience. No longer can you be a generalist and appeal to everyone. You must instead try to relate with specific people and in the end, turn others away. But fear not, those who don’t “click” with you, wouldn’t have been the type of customer that you wanted to work with anyway! It sounds counter-intuitive but instead of just saying that you are Realtor, perhaps you are recently married and can position yourself as “helping first-time homebuyers find the house of their dreams.” Or that you are nearing retirement age and can relate with the wants and needs to people in a similar demographic. Or maybe you are a pet lover, an avid runner, mountain biker or you like travel…the list goes on. Lets face it, people gravitate towards other people like themselves. The sooner you start appealing to one type of person, the sooner you’ll start appealing to many, and the more often your phone will ring. So what do you want to be known for? Talk soon, Sam T.
